William Knibb Memorial lost the best of 3 ISSA Under 16 Western Conference Basketball final, going down to Herbert Morrison by 2 games to nil.
In the first game on Wednesday, Knibb lost by 15 points, going down 45 – 60,
On Friday in the second game, the Ronald Beckford coached Knibb struggled offensively and faltered in their attempt to force a game 3. The purple and green Knibbites were held to single-digit scores in the first 3 quarters. They eventually went down 33 – 47.
The consolation for William Knibb was that Rhondane Ashman copped the MVP award and also walked away with awards for Top Rebounder and Top in Assists.
Herbert Morrison stomped their dominance on western Jamaica basketball when they also won the Under 19 title, defeating Spot Valley by 70-55. It was an incredible fourth straight double for the Montego Bay-based, Dave Black coached school.
Both of Herbert Morrison’s teams, as well as William Knibb and Spot Valley, will compete in the all-island playoff set to begin later this month.
William Knibb had defeated Cornwall College on the way to the final. Cornwall placed 3rd in the Under 16 age group by defeating Rhodes Hall 53-42.
Muschett from Wakefield had a lopsided victory in the Trelawny derby for 3rd place in the Under 19 group. They hammered William Knibb’s neighbours on Carib Road, Holland High, by 61-12.
