In a game just concluded at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, William Knibb Memorial High School defeated Cornwall College to reach the final of the Inter Schools Secondary Association (ISSA) Western Conference Under 16 Boy’s Basketball Final.
Cornwall led 11 – 10 in the first quarter. Knibb rallied to overcome the one point deficit and stretch the lead to Cornwall 21, Knibb 31 at the end of the first half.
In the third quarter, Cornwall kept coming, but Knibb held on for a 50-48 lead. The two point lead held to the end as Knibb went on to win by 68 to Cornwall’s 66.
The game ended with 2 Knibbites as joint top scorers for their team.
Point guard Tusane Burgess, ended with 17 points, and also bagged 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 assists.
Also coming up with 17 points was center Kevaughn Hill, 11 rebounds, 4 blocks, and a steal.
They were ably assisted by power forward Clifoy Samuels who grabbed 15 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals and an assist.
Aldain Eccleston had 8 points and Phillip Hodges completed the scoring with 4 points.
William Knibb will go on to play Herbert Morrison in the final.
William Knibb went all the way and won the all-island basketball final in 2014, defeating Jamaica College 66-58 at the National Stadium court. It was the first national title for William Knibb in any sport.
Back in 2014, the team was coached by Ronald Beckford, who is once again at the helm of the purple and green clad boys from Carib Road.
