It was a Russian upset in the Men’s 100 metres hurdles. Sergey Shubenkov went under 13 seconds for the first time when he won the event at the IAAF 15th World Championships. Shubenkov was timed in a new Russian national record of 12.98 seconds.
For Jamaica, there was a surprise silver medal, as Hansel Parchment recovered from a slow start to beat Aries Merritt of the USA for the silver medal.

Hansle powered from behind, having been totally out of the picture, and not fancied for a medal.
The hurdling technique of Jamaica’s number one Omar McLeod relegated him to 6th position in 13.18. McLeod hit several hurdles, as he did in the semi-finals. He was the fastest man this year in the field. Having run 12.97 earlier in the season.
Jamaica finished the day reaping 4 more medals: a silver and bronze in the Women’s 200m final, Parchment’s silver, and topping it off with a superb performance by Danielle Williams, who won gold in the Women’s 100 metres hurdles final.
