A 72nd minute strike from Garath McLeary was enough to take Jamaica to a 1-0 victory over El Salvador.
The win takes Jamaica to 7 points and top of Group B. Costa Rica and hosts Canada played to a 0-0 draw to make Costa Rica the other qualifier from the group. They finished on 3 points.
Jamaica lost it’s first string goalkeeper in the first half after his head and the boots of the Costa Rica striker collided. He was rushed off to hospital.
Jamaica also ended the game with 10 players, losing Darren Mattocks in the 82nd minute to a questionable foul on the sideline. The replay showed that it was a poor call and should not have been a foul.
After losing Maddock, it seemed as if Jamaica had a one man advantage as they had a couple of good opportunities to make it two goals. El Salvador too, got two opportunities to equalize, but were let down by faulty shooting.
Jamaica will now head to the quarter final, which is the knockout stage.
