As we are about to celebrate our 53rd year of Independence from Great Britain, it is fitting that we go back to where it all began.

On August 6, 1962, the official ceremony marking Jamaica’s newly granted independence from Great Britain was held inside the National Stadium. It was highlighted by the lowering of the Union Jack of Great Britain and the raising of the Jamaican flag for the first time.
