You would think Sherone Simpson had just won the Olympics gold medal, plus 1 billion dollars. Sherone was ecstatic after winning the PanAm Games 2015 one hundred metres crown. If we know where she is coming from, then we would understand.
Her expressions reveal her personal triumph over adversity. The Olympic silver medal in the 100 metres in Beijing 2008, has struggled in recent years with injuries. This season, she is coming off knee surgery. Along the way, several persons suggested that she quit. She was determined to overcome, so that passionate, emotion filled celebration is that of a woman who persevered and overcame.
Her time of 9.95 is her season’s best, and keeps her on track for World Championship contention in 2015. That time will have to lowered to challenge for a medal, but she is fit and on target. Sherone has a personal best time of 10.82 over the 100 m, which she did way back in 2006. Sherone is also an Olympic gold medalist as a member of the Jamaica 4 x 100 metres relay team in Athens 2004.
