Two security guards on duty at the Good Hope Estate here in Trelawny are now in custody after allegedly chopping a lime thief to death.
Patrick Walden of Friendship, St James address is now dead.
Walden was allegedly caught trespassing on the estate property at about 10 pm Thursday night. When accosted, it is alleged that he attacked two security guards with a knife.
In the ensuing confrontation, one of the guards allegedly chopped Walden several times with a machete.
Walden was taken to the Falmouth Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Good Hope Estate was the property of one of Jamaica’s largest land owners, John Tharp, for whom Tharp Street in Falmouth is named. It is now a large farm and tourist attraction, being home to the good Hope Great House as well as Chukka Adventures Good Hope.
