Garfield Byndloss, a well known taxi-driver from Florence Hall Village in Trelawny, was shot and killed on Cornwall Street in the vicinity of Total Gas Station (Water Square) in Falmouth.
After the killing, Phillip Whittaker, 52 yrs old Accountant of Lot 507 Stone Brook Vista, Trelawny turned himself in to the Falmouth police.
Police reports are that both Whittaker and the deceased had a long standing dispute whereby the deceased was blamed for taking and sending a picture to Whittaker’s wife of his car parked at his girlfriend’s home sometime ago.
On Thursday night at about 11 pm, Byndloss and the accused man had an argument near the location from which the taxi driver operated in the town.
Following the altercation, which reportedly lasted for some time, the taxi-operator drove his Grey Toyota Wish Motorcar away from the location when the way was cleared for him to do so, as numerous other taxis were in operation there.
Police reports say Byndlloss returned about 40 minutes later driving his Grey Toyota Wish Motorcar and was about to drive the car pass Whittaker when Whittaker pulled his Glock 17 9mm Pistol and fired shots in the direction of Byndloss whom he said he saw reaching for something in his car hence he became fearful for his life.
Byndloss was hit several times in the left region of his chest.
The scene was processed by Area 1 TSD, and one (1) war head was found on the floor of the car in the drivers section, two 9mm spend casings were found on the driver seat of Byndloss’s car and two were found in the vicinity of Total Gas Station on Cornwall Street. One (1) knife was also taken from Byndloss’s car.
Byndloss was pronounced dead at 2:50am on 9/11/2018 at the Falmouth Hospital.
“Tullu Man” as he is popularly called is remembered for his days as a footballer having played for Baca Stars and Village United. He was a member of the local Praise Temple pentecostal church.
Facebook was abuzz with persons paying tribute to Byndloss with references being primarily to his humility and constant smile.
He is survived by a wife and 2 children.
