One of the most prominent attorneys in Montego Bay, perished in a two-vehicle crash in Ironshore St. James today. The accident took place along the Elegant Corridor near Ironshore, specifically, the trafficlight at the Flankers/Whitehouse intersection.

Dead is George C. Thomas, OD, my former workmate in the Falmouth Courts Office in the early 1980’s. He was the Clerk of the Courts for Trelawny. George left government employment and became a successful defence lawyer. He was also President of the Cornwall Bar Association.

Four other persons, including his son, are now undergoing treatment.

He was a former student athlete of Cornwall College who was outstanding in track and field. At one time, George held the Boys’ Champs triple-jump record and pole vault records, which remained unbroken for 18 and 19 years respectively. In that year (1965), he was named champion boy at the annual Boys Championships.

The accident involved George’s Mercedes Benz and a Nissan Tida. More pictures below:
