The St Ann police have held a person of interest in relation to Saturday morning’s murder of a woman in Runaway Bay.

The woman, identified as Melissa Nelson (aka ‘Picky’) from Salt Marsh in Trelawny was shot dead while a man was shot and injured in the Bellair Housing Scheme in Runaway Bay about 1:30 am on Saturday.

Reports from the police are that Nelson, who jointly occupied the house with two men, saw fire coming from a section of the house. They reportedly opened the door to fetch water outside when a man opened gunfire at them.

The police were summoned and Nelson along with one of the occupants was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead and the man admitted in serious condition. The third occupant escaped unhurt.

Nelson is from the Salt Marsh area and also lived in Falmouth for several years.
