Westwood High School, located in Stewart Town, Trelawny is the sixth ranked school in academic passes, according to the latest EducateJamaica.org ranking just released. Westwood moved up one spot from 7th place last year. In doing so, they surpassed neighbours St Hilda’s Diocesan High from Brown’s Town, St Ann. St Hilda’s placed 3rd last year but dropped to 7th this time around.
Westwood is one of 7 all-girls schools in the top 10. Montego Bay High School for girls is number 3 making it the top ranked school in Western Jamaica. MoBay High is surpassed by Campion College at the number 1 position and Immaculate Conception High at number 2.
Westwood High School was founded in 1882 and is the only all-girls school in Trelawny. They are also the only school in Jamaica that carries the tradition of wearing hats. That makes them unique and outstanding wherever they go. To compliment their unique attire, the “girls in the hats” also stand out academically.
In its publication titled THE CSEC RANKINGS 2015: The Ivy League Edition, Educate Jamaica looked at each school and calculated what percentage of students earned a minimum of 5 CSEC subjects (including Mathematics and/or English) at the end of grade 11.
