Ground Broken for Luxurious Oyster Bay Hotel at Blue Waters (Bush Cay)

On March 30, 2017, Prime Minister Andrew Holness broke ground for the Oyster Bay Hotel at Blue Waters (Bush Cay) near Falmouth, Trelawny. The project was originally started several years ago, but was later abandoned. Reconstruction has begun on the property with an aim for completion in early 2018.

The Bush Cay area is a natural mangrove eco-system that was disturbed to build yet another hotel as Trelawny’s expansion continues. The area is prized for its white sand beaches and on a Sunday afternoon one could hop on Willy’s boat from Half Moon Bay in Falmouth and take the short journey to Bush Cay.

Now, the area is under development for a luxurious property of several hundred suites with extensive living area, beach view and easy beach access.

Trelawny continues its tourism expansion even before the commencement of the Harmony Cove mega project which has been spoken about for years, but has not yet come to fruition.

The US$110-million Excellence Oyster Bay hotel is expected to open its doors to guests in the first half of 2018. It will feature 325 suites with expansive living spaces, panoramic ocean views, and direct beach access.

The project is being undertaken by the Excellence Group, which is renowned for its award-winning luxury properties.

Some 2,200 jobs will be created for Jamaicans during the building and operation phases.
