Falmouth’s Cordell Simpson, the Montego Bay United defender has earned his first call to the Jamaica national team for its qualifier against Nicaragua.
Simpson is a former William Knibb Memorial High DaCosta Cup football player as well as Headley Cup cricketer. He was initially successful in cricket; and Simpson represented Jamaica in the sport up to the Under 19 level.
After William Knibb, Simpson chose football over cricket and played Premier League for Village United before joining Montego Bay United. He won a National Premier League title with the MBU team in the 2013-2014 season.
Another former William Knibb player, Lance Laing, is also in the squad, which will be cut from 27 to 23 on Friday.
Jamaica will play Nicaragua in the first World Cup qualifier at 8 pm on Friday evening.
We congratulate our own Cordell Simpson on his call and hope this will help to catapult him on the way to more success.
