Falmouth to Welcome New Largest Cruise Ship in the World
Falmouth will welcome Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas on November 22, 2016. This is the new “largest cruise ship in the world.”
A beautification of sections of the town is now being fast-tracked to make way for the arrival.
This means that Falmouth will be host to the 3 largest cruise ships in the world: Harmony of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas. The ship will bring approximately 6000 additional guests on each call.
Harmony of the Seas
Launched in 2016, the 227,700-ton, 6,360-passenger Harmony of the Seas is the first of two identical Oasis 3 class ships. It becomes the new “world’s largest”, together with its still unnamed sister vessel, scheduled for delivery in 2018. The Harmony ship exceeds in size even her old Oasis-class sisters Oasis and Allure.
Harmony is heavier than its siblings by over 1,700 tons, more than three meters wider, and able to accommodate 100 more passengers. The total capacity of the newest Royal Caribbean ship is well over 6,000 guests. The ship cost $1,35 billion to build and debuted in May 2016 in Southampton, UK and cost $1,35 billion to build.
