Tragedy struck in the community of Bounty Hall on Thursday night as a man who was busy at his mother’s wake (“dead-yard”) was killed in a motorcycle accident.
Romel Wilson was struck by a motorcycle as he crossed the road to get an item for his guests. Wilson was a red cap porter at the airport and his co-workers were out in numbers to give their support.
The red cap porters association were the sponsors of the night as their policy is that whenever a family member of one of the porters die, then they sponsor the wake for a night.
Up to late yesterday afternoon, the rider of the motorcycle was in hospital in an unconscious state.
His mother was scheduled to be buried today.
Romel Wilson’s death brings to 11, the number of road fatalities reported in the parish of Trelawny since the start of the year. Motorcycle accidents accounted for five of that number.
