The women’s 400 metres semi-final at the 15th IAAF World Championships in Beijing, will have 4 Jamaican women competing to reach the final.
All 4 Jamaicans advanced from their heats yesterday. Christine Day and Stephenie Ann McPherson won their heats while Shericka Jackson and Novlene Williams-Mills placed second.
Here are the qualifying times of the Jamaicans:
- Christine Day – 50.58
- Stephenie Ann McPherson – 50.34 (Season’s Best)
- Shericka Jackson – 50.41
- Novlene Williams-Mills – 51.07 (Season’s Best)
Stephenie Ann McPherson had the best qualifying time in the heats. However, we have noticed that in the men’s 400 metres, the Jamaican men struggled in the semis after posting great times. For example, a season’s best of 43.93 (new Jamaican national record) from Rusheen McDonald, was followed up by a relatively pedestrian 44.86 in the semis. none of the Jamaican men reached the finals. Let’s hope this does not befall the ladies.
Stephenie Ann McPherson:
